Beautiful Skin Starts On The Inside

When you have undiagnosed dark spots on your face, or many dark spots on your face, you may be curious as to how they got there. There are a range of causes and treatments for dark spots and speaking to your doctor is the best way of dealing with them - especially if they are affecting your appearance so much that it gets you down.

Types of Dark Spots
Blackheads - Small black dots that show up on your face such as around your nose, cheeks or chin are blackheads and these are not a major problem. With simple exfoliation you can keep the dirt out of your pores that causes these blackheads and keep your skin clear.
Moles - These are dark marks which can appear on your face but can also appear on other areas of the body too. Some are safe, but others can be cancerous so it is always important to check before you even think about treatment.
Age Spots - Also known as liver spots, these types of spots are flat round patches of skin that are darker than your natural skin colour and usually show up on the sun exposed parts of your body. They can be a light brown to black colour and won't be painful but can appear on the arms, neck or face. These can be treated with a simple cream but always ask a doctor or dermatologist which is best for the condition.
Melasma --Also known as skin discolouration, this is often found on women during pregnancy and can be linked to hormonal changes in your body. This is usually when oestrogen and progesterone produce more pigment cells than normal and this usually appears on the face. Most common in women, the best treatment is a bleach cream or 'skin lightening cream' but should be used alongside a sun block cream as well.

Home Remedies
Some people like to try more natural home remedies to save themselves money on expensive creams or cosmetics, but they can take longer to work and won't necessarily work on everyone. A lemon juice scrub for example uses the acidity of the citrus juice to lighten the dark areas, but remember that it can increase the intensity of the sun's rays so always use with a sun block. Dairy, vegetables, fruit and aloe vera have all been known to improve the appearance of dark spot on face.

Cosmetics
Garnier, Clean & Clear and Olay are just a few brands that offer cover-up cosmetics that are suitable for people with dark spots on face. Although concealer is enough for just getting rid of dark circles under your eyes, there are skin camouflage cosmetics which are suited for more serious skin pigmentation issues such as vitiligo, melasma or hyperpigmentation.
General Skin Care
Above all, remember that exfoliating is an essential part of your daily skin care routine and can remove dry skin. To keep skin healthy always moisturise, and to keep it protected wear sun block too.
